Prickett adds fuel to the Bell 407 helicopter after returning to Memorial Hospital. Prickett added 15 gallons to give them enough for 1 1/2 hours of flight time. More than that makes it difficult to take off from the top of the seventh floor of the hospital. If the crew has to fly farther than that, they refuel at the Colorado Springs Airport. Prickett wears his fun meter patch on the back of his helmet on the way to a call in southern El Paso County. Prickett may be jokester on the ground, but in the air it's serious business for the pilot with 40 years experience, 22 years flying in the Army and 18 flying medical helicopters. Middleton does a preflight walk around before leaving for a call. Safety is a major concern with the crew. The crew will ground themselves if any of the three are too tired or feel the weather conditions aren't right to fly. Three to go, one to say no, is the crew's motto. (The Gazette, Christian Murdock)
