SFC Jesus Rodriguez,27, of the 759th Military Police Battalion received a Meritorious Service Medal for his actions that may have saved the life of an injured climber in Garden of the Gods.  The climber only IDed as Jeffery, fell about 100 feet and was severely injured.

Large numbers of people were waiting outside the doors of The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region on Tuesday, February 24, 2009, when it opened for the day. Tuesday is National Spay Day and in honor of the day the Humane Society made available 200 certificate at bargain prices for dog and cat owners to get pets spayed or neutered. Princess hung out in line with her owners while they waited to get a certificate for her sister.  (The Gazette/Jerilee Bennett)

At least twenty firefighters battled a house fire at 3820 Stetson Court on Monday, Feb. 23, 2009 that spread from a basement chimney and was fueled by cardboard boxes in the attic.  Firefighters struggled to prevent the fire from spreading in the attic area and poured water on the house.  It took firefighters just under forty minutes to contain the fire.  But not before having to tear into the roof of the home.  There was no estimate on how much damage had been done to the home.  The Gazette, Bryan Oller

Lara Dyer collects prom dresses donated for the Goin' Green Prom Dress sale to be held at Divine Redeemer Catholic Church this Saturday. The dresses will sell for 10 dollars each and the proceeds will go to charity. The  will be a way of recycling the dresses and giving teen girls a chance to get a good deal for prom. On Wednesday night, the District 11 Board of Education decided to close the school as a neighborhood school at a meeting. Students leave school at the end of the day.
